Dr Sir I have a favour for a Friend to to ask of you on the 12th of this Month I sent by the bearer Dr Harnard a petition to you signed by a no of persons asking the releas of a Fine in the Circuit Court against one Columbus Tate he was on a bond for the forthcoming of Negro at the Court in 1861 when court was in cession Mr Tate brought the Negro in and gave him up to the Sheriff in open Court when the cas was Continued Mr Tate had gone home in Good Faith and the Sheriff let the Negro as he stated in the petion as Sheriff Dr Haranard had is Pocket robed which contained the petition as he will state to you If you can not releas Mr Tate of the fine ~~[...]~~he do only ask the fine and not the Fees if not the release he wants a Respite to give him Tim to have the petien signed as the Sheriff is preping him he is a Stead industrious Man and has a large Family and is hard to Live but honest
