Judgment agant L. W. Sale in the Jef Cir. Court for $400. March the 4. 1865 >

Your Excellency's petitioner, Lewis W Sale, respectfully represents that he is a citizen of Kentucky residing in Louisville, that on the 28^th day of September, 1864, one R. S Hall, being under arrest in said city on the charge of grand larceny, Your petitioner, actuated and induced solely by the belief that the said Hall was innocent of said accusation, signed his name as securety to a bond for four hundred dollars, taken by the chancellor of the Louisville Chancery Court, for the appearance of the said Hall at the October term of the Jefferson Circuit Court, and thereafter the said Hall failing to appear at said term, the amnt of said bond was declaired forfeited and a writ of 'scire facias" issued against said Hall and your petitioner, upon which a judgment has been rendered against your petitioner for the sum of four hundred dollars, said Hall not being found; and your petitioner further represents that he is a poor man, with a large family, dependent upon his daily exertions and that the payment of so large a sum of money, will subject him to serious inconvenience and great privation wherefore he earnestly petitions your Excellency to release him from
the payment of said judgment same and except or so much thereof as may be coming to the attorney for the Commonwealth

will please find enclosed $2⁰⁰ fee for remission provided the Gov^r should see proper to remit and when done will please send the same to Mr Louis Sale, or James P Chambers Clerk of our circuit court or to myself Mr Page will also please find enclosed three Briefs which belong to the office of the Court of appeals which he will do the favor to
deliver to Mr Bolling, with my compliments & thanks for his kindness & prompt attention to all matters

Please say to his excellency for me that the party for whom Sale went bail, according to my best information was a volunteer & not a Substitute
