To his Excellency, the Governor of the commonwealth of Ky,

Your petitioner a citizen of the county of Boyd, most respectfully states that at the last April Term of the circuit Court there was fines assessed against him to the amount of three hundred & eighty dollars ($380) one for $200, for permiting unlawfull gaming on his premises, this your petitioner says, was and is positively false, He proved by one witness, which witness proved that which never took place, one fine for keeping a tipling house $60; he states that he did keep some whisky to sell but never did suffer any to be drank on the premises, nor the adjacent premises; although there was a witness proved that him and others, on one accasion drank some whisky got of Kouns, on the adjoining premises -- he was fined $20 for retailing, and $50, for selling to Otho. Guard, a minor, said Guard proved that when he purchased the whiskey he represented to Kouns he was going on twenty two years, old, but swore on the trial he was not twenty one when he purchased the whiskey -- and he was also fined $50, for selling whiskey to one Hammen a minor; said Hammon the minor was offered, and proved that represented to Kouns, he was twenty one years old, at the time he purchased the whiskey, but swore on the trial although he told Kouns so he was only going on twenty one
years old; your petitioner states that upon his being proceeded; he obtained a license to keep a tavern, and when his license expired he did not renew them, that he has been compelled to sustain himself and family been forced to remove to the Bellfont, Iron ore diggings; and by dialy labour, raising and delivering oar to the furnace sustains his family which is large and helpless; he says that if he is compelled to pay the judgments, aforesaid, it distress his family and leave them without means to live on; he says that the judgments are oppressive on him and the more so from the fact of his never intentionally violating the law; he asks your excellency too consider his case, and interpose in his behalf and through your climency interpose and remit the fines, aforesaid, and as in duty your petitioner will ever pray &c
