To his Excellency Thomas E Bramlette Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky Your Petitioner R W Clayton would most respectfully represent to your Excellency that at the present June term 1865 of the Marion Circuit Court Ky he was convicted by the Judgement of said Court of the offense of dealing faro & also of gaming and was fined the sum of $500 & costs and also the sum of $20 — and costs —

Your petitioner confesses that he has played cards but denies that he is or has been a common gambler or been in the habit of dealing faro or setting up any other banking game — Your Petitioner says that has not played cards for four weeks and is resolved never to play again and is going to commence his profession the law provided he can procure a remission of the fine for if he does not he will be compelled to go to jail and there remain as he has not the means to pay the fine nor any friends to furnish the same he therefore prays Your Excellency to remit the said fines with a promise never to so act as to become necessary to ask Executive Clemency
