Princeton, Caldwell County, Ky.
June 20^th 1865.
To his Excellency, Thomas E Bramlett,
Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky,

Your petitioner, Thomas W. Matlock, respectfully states that at the June Term 1865 of the Caldwell Circuit Court he was convicted of a violation of the marrage laws of this State in said Court in three cases, in two of which his fine was assed at One Hundred dollars each in the third case at Fifty dollars. Your petitioner would state that his violation of the law consisted in not filing his oath of allegiance in the Clerk's Office of the County in writing as requested by an Act of the Legislature passed on the -- day -- 1862. He states that he is a Minister of the Gospel, and that the time of selebrating the rights of matrimony between the parties he knew not of the law referred to that as soon as he was informed of the law he complied with the same, by immediately ^filing^ said oath as required by law, and that too before the finding the indictment in the said three cases. He respectfully askes your kind consideration in the matter, and if consistent with just and propriety, that said fines be remitted.
