Dear Sir: We the undersigned citizens of Muhlenberg County I most earnestly and respectfully request you to interpose executive clemency in favor of Thomas Jenkins of this county and release him of so much of a Judgement of the Muhlenberg Circuit Court in favor of the Commonwealth and against Said Jenkins for $80, rendered at its last May term as lies in your power. Mr J. was tried and found guilty of shooting at Henry Jenkins without wounding. There had long been a f dificulty between the two Jenkins Thomas Jenkins did not shoot untill he had been struck two blows by Henry with a heavy plank felling him to his Knees when he at once arose and fired two shots at Henry who was running. Mr Jenkins is a good citizen; and a loyal man; and Since the recounter has become a permanent criple by the maiming of his ~~right~~ left hand; by accident We therefore hope and expect that you will release him of said Judgments except fees.
