To your Excellency T. E. Bramlet

Dear sir I write to inform you that I am now living in Raywick Marion county Ky,, I moved to this place last Christmas & soon after I was applied to to ^become^ Post Master at this place & I accepted the offer as I had ben nearly ruined by the war & was keeping a small Grocery Store trying to make a living for my large Family, during last week the Town passed an ordinance that all Business houses should be cl^o^ssed on the Sabath & ^I^ was glad to see ^it^ & on last Sabath morning while I was attending to ^the^ Post Office a man came in with two small children & wanted 5c worth of candy as his children was very fretful & as I thought there was no harm in it I let him have it & the next morning an enimay of mind
had me arrested & tried for selling the candy & ^the^ court fined me five Dollars & cost which was aboute as much & as my Scanty means will not justify my giving that a way I ask you if you can remit the whole of it as it was done through malace the court all Say that if this will not do that thay will all s sine a petision to have it remited as ninetenths of the ~~wole~~ whole place will do the same the court thinks this will be the better plan as they donot want it known who had a hand in it your ^early^ complyance to this ^will^ greatly oblige your old friend

I for got to name in the proper place that the Guerillars have injured me very much during the last winter Cap^t Marions men took from me the last 5c I had ~~in the~~ & a great many Groceries & Capt,, Sol Thompson's men where here very often so I have but very little left
