To his Excellency Thomas E Bramlette
The Governor of Kentucky

The Petitioner James W Sweeney will respectfully represent that at the June Term 1865, of the City Court of Louisville: a forfeiture was taken in a Bail Bond which he had executed for the appearance of his brother Bluford Sweeny to answer to an Assault & Battery committed upon Louis Sweydorf: in the sum of $200,00

He states the Grand Jury returned an indictment against his brother: and the Same was set for trial at the last august Term of said Court 8^th day of August 1865: Your petitioner states that on the day of the Trial. He took his brother to the Court room and being very busy He left him in the room, in the Custody of M^r Pat Dillen the Marshall of the said Courts: informing Mr Dillen about the matter:

He states that afterwards the case was Called and his brother Bluford Sweeny not being acquainted with the usages of the Court did not answer and therefore the forfeiture was taken:

Your Petitioner says that He in good faith did all that the law required of him in delivering his brother to the Custody of the Marshall of the Courts: Yet the Commonwealth now has a capias in the hands of the Marshall of said Court -- to compel the payment of the $200.00 on the forfeited Bond. Your Petitioner submits to your Excellency, and humbly prays that the same may be remitted
to him: He will be compelled to pay the Costs and He is not able to pay now: by misfortune he has recently lost all he had by the fraudulent conduct of a partner in business:
