To His Excelllency Thomas E Bramlett

Your petitioner Ansel George would respectfully represent that in the month of October 1859 he had a difficulty with John Perkins of the County of Garrard Kentucky That in ^the^ rencounter he shot and wounded said Perkins for which he was Indicted in the Garrard Circuit Court that said case was continued from time ^to time^ until the the year 18562 that in that year your petitioner Joined the union armey in which he served faithfully until a fiew weks since when he returned to his home and little family to enjoy the blessings of the government which he had for three long years pearilled his life to preserve upon his return he was met by the prosecution which hasd been set on foot in the Garrard circuit court for the shooting aforesaid the most important witness & the onley one who could have been regarded as wholy uninterested was not presant at the trial and the prosecutor was the principle witness who your petitioner thinks was neither dispassionate or impartial The jury found your petitioner guilty and assessed his fine at fifty dollars for which judgment was entered Your petitioner thought at the time of the shooting and at this time he was justified in the shooting your petitioner is a poor man with a small family and and just comencing in life and although
the sum is small it would be Oppressive to your petitioner your pettioner has all his life been a quiet peceful & law abidng man and he expects to remain so through life in consideration of his quiet & peseful disposition, his poverty and the toil & trials of a three years campaign he hopes your excellency will remit ~~and~~ the judgment except the portion which is going to the officers of the Court August 23^rd 1865

I have known the petitioner from a boy he is a quiet & peaceful man and the present is the only dificulty he was ever in ~~he states that~~ the petitioner is poor with a small family that he has been in the union army for the last three years and prooved a good & faithful soldier & I should feel Gratifyed to have the jugement remited
