Enclosed is a petition for the remitance of a fine imposed on J W, Scott of $25,00

The case is Simply this a rebel sympathiser who had frequently acted and spoke in for of the rebellion had voted When Lieut Hukel ordered to arrest him. When the offender struck at the Lieut who imediately cried out to knock him down when Scott Made only one Stroke at him only hiting him a very slight stroke for this he was arraigned & fined as above stated

Mr Scott is, and always was an unconditional Union Man had one son who served 12 mos in in the 14th Ky — and ~~relrel~~ renlisted in the Veteran sirvice, and was honorably discharged, when his Regt was mustered out.

Mr J, W, Scott is a poor man and it would be oppressive to him to pay said fine.

His petition is rather a homely one but the petitioners are all unconditional union men I am told no man refused to sign it. to who one it was presented.
