To His Excellency Thomas E Bramlett Gov of Ky Your petitioners Ezekiel Goodin & Jesse Goodin would most respectfully represent that on the 26 day of Oct 1864 a certain Nelson Valentine was brought before W W Pope Judge Knox County Court & James T Goshen A Justice of the Peace for said County and tried for the crime of "Malicious Stabbing" Valentine was on said trial admitted to bail in the sum of Seven hundred and fifty dollars $750, that your petitioners became surety for said Valentine in a bail bond for $750, for Valentine appearance in the Knox Circuit Court at the April Term 1865 that Valentine contrary to their expectations & contrary to his solem promise fail to appear & has left the country haveing no family and the country being in a very unsettled condition Valentine has gone west that at the April Term 1864 their bond was forfeited & at the Sept Term 1865 of said court Judgement was rendered against them for said sum of $750, they say that they like all other
Union men in this section of the county have been subjected to all the ravages of war their subsistence eat out their property taken from them without compensation & they left in a destitute condition they say money is scarce & hard to get they say if they have said Judgement to pay it will cause a great Sacrifice of there property & reduce them & familys to poverty.

The premises considered they pray you in the abundance of mercy & clemency to extend to them the arm of your Executive clemency and remit said fine or Judgement
