To His Excellency Thos E. Bramlett Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky

The undersigned B. F. Simpson your petitioner would respectfully state to your Honor that at this the present September Term 1865 of the Pulaski Circuit Court he was indicted by the Grand Jury of said County for the of selling spirituous Liquors to a minor, to wit, one Robt N. Graves and that he had been keeping tavern but a few days about five miles out from Somerset and did not know that it was contrary to law to sell Spts Liquors to a minor and that the s'd Graves is a man and looks to be twenty one years or more old, -- is tall, heavy set, wears whiskers and associates with grown up men. Your petitioner would further state that he has thus far and intends to keep a good, orderly & useful tavern and that had he known s'd Graves was a minor and it was contrary to law to sell Liquors to a minor he would most certainly not have sold to him, as his intention is ^& has ever been^ to violate no law of this commonwealth. Under the foregoing circumstances your petitioner respectfully asks your Honor to remit the fine to wit $50 -- imposed upon him for the said offense he having confessed judgments ^in open Court^ so soon
as he was informed of the s'd indictment; this the 3^d day of Oct. 1865
