Your petitioners Leneord C Anderson and William Jennings both citizens of Mason County Ky. respectfully represent that for nearly a year past they have been ~~[...]~~carrying on business in partnership in said county, and were all the time regularly licensed "coffee house" keepers — At the last October term of the Mason Circuit Court they were indicted by the "GrandJury" for selling liquor to three "minors", and on learning the fact they appeared before the Circuit Court at the same term, and plead guilty, and a fine was assessed against each of your petioners of $50 — and the costs — They now respectfully ask your Excellency to remit said fine for the following reasons, To wit

Said Minors for whome your petitioners were indicted for selling liquor to were all young men near their majority, and in appearance seemed to be really young men of full age, and as the parents of these young men had given a general verbal permission to all the barkeepers of the neighbourhood to sell their sons liquor when called for by them — Your petitioners thought they were doing ^no^ wrong in this case, and in fact only committed the error of omitting to require of each of the young men a written order from their parents as the strict letter of the law requires — We hope your Excellency will see that we did not designedly break the laws, and that our only wrong was in taking a verbal permission to sell liquor to these young men, and
we therefore most respectfully ask your Excellency to relieve us by remitting said fines as far as you have the power to do so
