Some time Since J D Skinner James M^cNutt and Charles Foster of Bullitt Co became bail for one John Ayers — Ayers having gone into the army as a substitute for M^cNutt. forfeited at the next term and at our last May term I took Judgement against the three men from Bullitt, for the amount of the bond, four hundred Dollars ($400). Neither M^cNutt nor Skinner are worth that amount, and if that amount is made out of the little estate of Foster it would take about one half of his estate It is a great hardship on Foster whose property has been levied on & who has received nothing f~~rom~~or his going on said bond but the gratification of seeing M^cNutt remain at home out of thearmy to assist in the support of his wife and children. Your excellency will pardon me for saying that I believe that this Case a far more meritorious one than many other appli-
cants for executive Clemency and will be appreciated by Foster & I trust you will do him the great Kindness to relieve him — but for Gods sake don't remit so many
