I have upon principal abstained from asking of you the pardon or remission of offenders charged with crime in this portion of the State. I would not present the application of W^m Miles which accompanies this letter but for the fact that I have been concerned in the trials which have taken place and feel a moral certainty that the young man is not guilty in act; although I think he yielded to the temptation at first presented. but seperated himself before the robbery was consumated

He has been out of the country in the Federal Army and his return home will revive all
the embittered feelings of the past which are now so rapidly subsiding and which the peace and harmony of our community demands shall be suppressed and kept in subjection. I say to you in that I do honestly believe that a quiet pardon of W^m Miles by which all further investigation into the acts connected with that robbery may be stopped, will be accepted by the great body of this community as proper and right

I sincerely hope you will feel yourself at liberty to grant this request and with assurances of my continued personal regard and desire to serve you believe me
