To His Excellency the Governor of Kentucky

Your Petitioner Elijah Wilkins would Most respectfully represent unto your Excellency that his brother James L. Wilkins was Indicted in the Muhlenberg Circuit Court for Larceny the charge being that he had stolen from one Jacob Gish a small Lot of bacon his said brother did not flee not being guilty as your petitioner then believed and now believes but gave himself up or was taken by the Sheriff and your Petitioner said Wilkins and John Gregory became his Bail and the prisoner did not make his appearance but in the mean time had become intemperate and reckless and did not Care for the [parties] of getting clear of the prosecution your Petitioners are poor men with large families and are really not able to spare the money from their families your Petitioner Wilkins has already paid off the Commonwealth atty his fees which will appear by the papers herewith filed. The Bail Bond was forfeited and Judgment rendered against your Petitioner and Execution is now in the hands of the sheriff. The undersigned would most humbly Petition your Excellency to remit said Judgment or the amt unpaid in the Same Execution and they will ever pray &c

The undersigned Jacob Gish would ask & Petition his Excellency the Governor to remit the the Judgment on the Forfeited Recognizance the undersigned being the person from whom the Bacon was stolen The Petitioner Wilkins [haven] paid the Commonwealths atty his fees I think he has suffered enough he and Petitioner Gregory being both poor men Jacob Gish

The undersigned Petitioners neighbors and acquaintances of Petitioners Wilkins and Gregory join in their prayer and Petition that His Excellency the Govenor would remit the [...] or Judgment they are poor men and have been unfortunate in becoming the Bail of a dissipated young man. They do not believe this young man was guilty of the crime charged to him
