Dear Sir

There was two men by the name of William Brown & John Brown committed to this Clay County jail for the murder of James B Lyttle a peace officer while in the discharge of his duty as an officer said Browns broke jail on ~~that~~[the] night of the 20^th Sept 1863, & are now running at large,

William Brown is about twenty six years old about five feet six or seven inches high & weighs about one hundred & forty five pounds, auburn hair, eyes of a yellowish caste, rather red complexion, quick spoken, lisps is speech, pleasant countinance, said to be left handed & has a scar thought to be on his left thigh caused by stabing himself

John Brown is about twenty one years old about five feet five or six inches high wighs about one hundred & forty or fifty pounds, Light flaxen hair eyes of grayish cast, swathy complexion, speaks but seldom, stearn & down countenance, one bone of his right arm has been broken,

These boys may try to join the arymy to escape punishment, I call them boys because they have rather a boyish look
