Sir— This is to inform you that John Neal a citizen of Metcalfe county & discharged soldier was Shot & killed on the Streets of the Town of Center in this County by Richard Williams ^Feb 5^th 1865^ also a citizen of this County (Metcalfe)— The act was done so far as I can learn without Provocation and the criminal has made good his escape — This is therefore to ask that you offer a reasonable reward for his apprehension —
