I William V. Archer Commissioner of Deeds for the State of Kentucky duly appointed and commissioned by the Governor thereof for the State of Pennsylvania and authorized to take the acknolwdgements of Deeds and other writings, do certify that these Articles of Association of "The Hardwick Oil Company" were this day produced to me by Nelson Yocum, Stephen Benton, Joseph Pancoast, Marmaduke Moore, George S Crawford, J Edgar Thompson, Lewis. L. Houpt, H. C. Yarrow, Phillip Wilson and W. Williamson the corporators therein named and by them then and there acknowleged before me to be their and each of their several acts and deeds for the uses and purposes therein mentioned.

WE Nelson Yocum Stephen Benton Marmaduke Moore. H. C. Yarrow George L. Crawford J. Edgar Thompson Joseph Pancoast Lewis L Houpt Philip Wilson and W Williamson
[ ] all citizens of the United States, being desirous of forming a Company, for the purpose of carrying on the business of mining or boring for Petroleum or Rock oil, under the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, do hereby, in accordance with the said laws, certify the terms and conditions upon which we are associated as follows, viz-

1. The corporate name of said Company shall be "The Hardwick Oil Company."
<< Objects. >
2. The objects of the formation of the said Company are the searching and mining for Petroleum and other minerals, and producing, refining and vending the same.
<< Capital Stock. >
3. The Capital Stock of the said Company shall be the sum of One million dollars divided into Forty thousand Shares of Twent five dol-
lars each.
<< Directors. >
4. The affairs of the said company shall be managed by a Board of seven Directors to be chosen annually at the time and place specified in the By Laws. The Board for the first year shall consist of the following stockholders viz-

5. The Operations of the said Company are to be carried on in ^Clarke^ Estill and Powell Counties, Kentucky in the town of Irvine in said Estill County in the State aforesaid

6. The duration of the existence of the said Company shall be for the full term of Fifty years.
