On motion of Samuel. A. Davis he is hereby appointed to fill the vacancy in the office of sheriff of this County occasioned by the removal of John. W. Gregory, he having refused to execute Bond for the collection of the revenue &^c, said Davis to act until the next August election and until his successor then chosen shall qualify, Whereupon said Davis took the oaths prescribed by law and the constitution and together with H Munchhoff, Abner Davis, George W. Orm, J. J. Jones and A. J. Harris his sureties executed covenant to the Commonwealth conditioned as required by law,
