Some time ago you wrote to me that the citizens of Sharpsburg had forwarded a petition to his Excellency Gov. Bramlette for the appointment of Mr C. P. Vanpelt as Justice of the peace in place of James S. Rainey Esq removed from the county, Enclosed find a copy. of the order certifying the vacancy and who another petition from the citizens asking for the appointment of Mr Joseph Pattens. I am acquainted with Mr. Pattens and know him to be in every way qualified to fill the office and hope his Excellency will favor the enclosed petitions
