Yours of Oct 15^th respecting a renewal of my commission as Commissioner of Deeds &c for Kentucky was duly received, & would have been answered sooner but for the fact that so little business in the line of these appointments has been doing for the last year that I felt reluctant to spare from my limited means — the trifling fee required on such renewal. For Kentucky I have done nothing for months, & the prospect for future business is gloomy in the extreme — & still I desire to retain the power & authority confered by the appointment in hope that in future it may be made available to the citizens of each state & therefore now enclose you the
fee & respectfully solicit a renewal of the office
