Office of the Quartermaster General,
FOR THE STATE OF KENTUCKY
Frankfort, Ky., Jan 27^th, 1862.

His Excellency Gov. Magoffin
Sir.

As you are aware. I accepted the office of Quarter Master General for the State with no intention of holding it longer than might be necessary to complete the clothing of the Kentucky Volunteers.

Having accomplished that object I now feel at liberty to give some attention to my private business. which has already suffered much from my absence

I therefore request your acceptance of this my resingation to take effect on the 10^th of February provisio. by which time I shall be able to complete the settlement of my accounts.

I beg your sir in conclusion to accept the assurance of my gratitude for the uniform courtesy & kindness which I have received at your hands and that you will relieve me to be yr. friend & obdt servt.
