Marcus L. Scott ^and John Hays^ says they ~~have~~ ^are^ near neighbors of Thos B. Wadlington, and hasv^e^ been acquainted with him for a number of years last past, and with his genl moral character — He ^~~theyhave~~^ ~~saysthey are~~ ^they say he is^ and so reputed to be a man of good moral characer, industrious, honest and law abiding. He~~says he is~~ ^They say they are^ well acquainted with said Prince and Blalock and ~~he does~~ ^they do^ verily believe that the evidence given by them on the trial was false, ^so much so as to prevent justice being done^ and that said Wadlington has been unjustly condemned by the false testimony of said witnesses. They say they were acquainted with M. A. Cartwright, and he was regarded in the neighborhood as a hasty and dangerous young man — and these affiants do verily believe that said Wadlington has been unjustly condemned and, that the killing of said Cartwright was in necessary self defence, and they do believe he ought to be set at liberty.
