To the Gov of the Commonwealth of Kentucky your Petitioner Polly Ann Southgate a free Woman of Collor would state by way of amendment to here pet heretofore filed that she is a free Woman & her husband whos name is Calob is a slave & he belonged to Robert Hitch that she bough her Husband Calop & not knowing that she had no Right to allow him to hyer his time out she suffered him to hyer him self to a Certaine J B Rowling for the Purpos of gitting him a par of shuse that she was Indited by the Circuit Court of Pendleton County & at the Oct term of said Court 1859 the Jury fined her forty Dollars for said offence she states that there was but the single offence of hyering as above stateded that some o or 10 of the Jury Joined in a pet to your Exelencey to have said fine
that she failed to sware to said pet & your Exelencey Respited said fine for the term of 12 month which Respite is now out she states that she did not no at the time she Commited the offence that she was violating any Law of the state & She has been carfell not to Repeet the offence she files this pet as amdment to the pet hertofore filed & makes the orriginal pet a part hereof She prays that your Exelency will Remit said fine as it was opperant to the satisfaction of the Jury that she did not attempt to voialate Any Law

I am persanaly acquanted with the petitioner Polly Ann Southgate & was presant & heard the trial when she was find & know her case is correctly stated in the orriganal pet & This Amded pet & think it a Case in which the ~~Executive~~ Gov should Interfere & Remit the fine in fact I am so well satisfied of the fact ~~that~~ I agreed to write this amdment for her free of charge I hope you will give her Case a hearing no more but Remain your frend
