Governor Magoffin,

Will receive by the hands of Mr Lawrence — a petition in behalf of Frederick Baker I am not able personally to give any of the details of the trial.

I was present when the verdict was rendered — and again when the judgment was pronounced, and the general feeling was favorable to the prisoner. His manner was that of a man who thought he had been unjustly convicted. Beyond that expression I know nothing of the public feeling, The names on the petition are those of men standing
well in the community whose word word be a good basis for Executive action
