Dear Sir

About six weeks or two months since, I was induced by the entreatie of a Widowed Mother to become the security for her son. on a Bond to keep the Peace — since that time the Boy has broken the Peace and thereby forfeited the Bond — I Know of no excuse of justification which can be set up in defense of the Deft conduct — at the same time I can see
no advantage to accrue to the state by coercing from me the amount of the Bond viz $1500 — Times are hard — money scarce, I am poor, and the Union is divided, in veiw of these circumstances it is my candid opinion that this ~~also~~ is a case which strongly recommends itself to executive clemency — Hoping that your Excellency may take the same view of the matter — and send by mail a pPardon for your humble servant
