To his Excellency, Beriah Magoffin, Governor of Kentucky.

Your petitioner would respectfully represent, that on the 19th. day of November 1860. he was fined by the Mayor of the City of Maysville, in the sum of Twenty Dollars, for the alledged charge of selling Spirituous Liquors contray to the Ordinance of said City. He states that he had license from the City to sell Spiruituous Liquors, in the house occupied by him in said City, and having rented the City Hall for an evening, sold Liquor in it. He states that he was entirely ignorant of the Ordinance of said City forbidding the sale of Spirituous Liquors in any other house than that which he permanently occupied. He states that he believes the person who informed against him, did so through malice, and that said witness is now in the jail of Mason County upon a charge of Grand Larceny. He humbly asks your Excellency, to bestow your clemency upon him by remitting said fine, as he is a poor man with a large family and can illy afford to pay said fine. For which he will ever feel gratefull,
