Beriah Magoffin Gov, of the Commonwealth of Kentucky

your petitioner Rufus Pearce would Respectfully State that he together with others were tried on the 15^th ult,, for disturbing the peace, and your petitioner was find $15,00, and cost, your petitioner States he is avery poor man anew beginner In the world, and has not possibly any thing to Spare to pay Said fine and wishes not to be Imprisoned for Same, he therefore prays your Excellency to Interpose In his behalf and Remit or at least grant him arespite of Said fine

E, Barron and acting Justice of the peace for the County of Pulaski & State of Kentucky would Respectfully State that I presided on the trial of Rufus Pearce & others there was nothing proven against him more thatn he disputed the word of a trustee of the School and Stated the School had not been taught agreable to law

there Seemed to be agood deal of prejudice against the parties there was counsel against them and none for them they are very Industrious people feeling It due to Mr Pearce to Say this much I close
