To the excellency Beriah Magoffin Governor of the commonwealth of Kentucky

Your petitioner Richard Meek States that at the Last fall term of the Johnson circuit court he was fined Fifty Dollars ($50) for carrying consealed Deadley weapons and he would State that the facts of the case are these that he was never served with process and if he had been permitted to defend the Same that could have proved that his Life had been threatened and that by the Sheriff of Johnson county he States that he was not at the Johnson circuit court nor had he employed counsil to attend to the case supposing that the commonwealth was not readdy Knowing that he had not been Summoned in the case he is not a resident of Johnson county he further States that he did not carry Said pistol in violation of Law as he would have been able to prove if he had a fair Trrial he says that the fine is verry oppressive and he asks your clemency and will ever &c
