I have been informed that a petition will be presented to you asking the pardon of Rufus Jones convicted of Manslaughter at the last term of the Warren ~~Cir~~ Criminal Court. I did not hear the evidence on the trial & of cause can say nothing on that subject. I know that his very aged grandfather, and his sisters and others of his relations are highly respectable and estimable citizens, and if you, upon examining the proof, (which it is said will be forwarded to you) come to the conclusion that it is a case in which you could feel justifiable in granting a pardon, I trust that the youth of Jones, and ~~his~~ the afflictions of his friends will plead in his behalf and induce the exercise of executive clemency.
