To his Excellency, Governor of the State of Kentucky --

Your petitioner John Gregory would represent to your Excellency that at the ~~June~~June Term of the Clay Circuit court 1858; Your petition ~~was fined~~ was fined fifty dollars and costs, on a charged of an assault; Afterwards on the 24^th day of January 1859; Governor morehead respited ^& stayed^ the collection of said fine, for the term of six months -- (except fees & costs,) He states that he has payed the fees & costs to the shereff of Clay County; And something more, the Sheriff has not returned said Execution against this defendant to the clerks office though it has been more than twelve months since H. L. White paid to the Sheriff of Clay county fifty dollars for this defendant to be placed as a credit on the said execution -- He states that he has been greatly harrassed by suits, And is a very poor man with a considerable family And cannot well spare anything from his family; the costs of the suit has been quite large --

Wherefore the petitioner prays you excellency to remit the fine except fees & costs and this petitioner will endeavor to so shape his course as not to be under the necessity of craveing the Executive Clemency again

John Gregory whose sober is a warm hearted man -- but excitable when in whiskey but for which we would not have meddled the boy I have no doubt I hope Your excellency will remit the fine
