To his excelency the Honerable Beriah Magoffin Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky

your petitioners would State that sometime in 1860 there was a petition addressed to your excelency in behalf of William Grant against whom a fine had been adjudged for Adultry Before David Robinson a Justice of the peace for Pike County which fine had been replevid ^by William Adkins & James L. Ratliff^ and in your clemency you thought proper to grant a respite of twelve months and before the time expired the said William Grant left the Country privately and left his sureties to pay his fines; your petitioners would as you in your Clemency to remit Said fine in as much as the sureties of said Grant have been placed in a condition by the respite Granted to pay the fine when they could other wise have avoided it and your petitioners will ever pray given under our hands this 22^nd day of February 1861
