To his Excellency the Governor of Kentucky

Your petitioner would represent to your excellency: that at the November term of the Clay Circuit Court ^last^ that he was by the verdict of a jury fined the sum of twenty dollars ~~for~~ on an Indictment for retailing spirituous liquors. Under the following circumstances

Your petitioner with the intention of keeping a tavern in Clay County had laid in a lot of liquors and made preparation for keeping public entertainment; And before the County Court held its next sittings at which he could obtain a license; and in the absence of your petitioner his wife let a neighbor have one quart of whisky; with the understanding the same was not to be drank on the premises or adjoining premises. And your petitioner supposes from the testimony that the said whisky was taken off of his premises, on to an adjoining premises (entirely out of the sigh of plaintiffs wife, a half mile more or less) and was there drank, without the knowledge and against the consent of Your petitioner or his wife; that the said liquor was not then paid for nor has it been paid for since nor has the same ever been charged to any person whatever;;

He states that his wife had let out the liquor without his knowledge and without his consent
if not against his positive commands — Wherefore he prays Your excellency will remit said fine and will ever pray
