D^r Sir Enclosed I send you a petition of John Coleman asking and praying the remission of a fine assessed agst him. at the April Term 1860 of the Knox Circuit Court, I am well acquainted with Mr Coleman I have always found him to be candid honest & true. and I have no reason to doubt the truth of the statements in his petition he is very poor young man and a cripple he has the care of a very old mother and Aunt on his hands. I know it would be a great sacrifice of his propiety to compell him to pay the fine he has but one horse, and if taken from he will not be able to make his crops. I think if any case was every presented that deserved the interposition of your Excellency. it is this case. A great many of the best citizen have sign his petition I believe every citizen in the county would do so if he would present it but I have advised it was unnecessary. I hope you
will remit the fine. Mr Dishman the commonlths atty says to me he wishes you to remit the fine. And would write to you but for time to do so. hopeing you will show Mr Coleman the mercy prayed for
