Governor of the commonwealth of Kentucky

Your petitioner Philip Gormley respectfully shews to ^your^ exellency that he has recently been convicted in the Fayette Circuit Court of the offence of selling spiritous liquors by retail the ~~prosecution is [malicious] it being a shut case~~ legally termed Keeping a tipling house the proscaution being malicious & spitefull Your petitioner in extenuation says to your Excellency that he is poor and that he has an insanewife and sickley child the child only 6 months of age on which account he cannot leave his house to go about any employment or labour They requiring his contstant attention if — (Your petitioner is sent to prison and he has not money to pay the fine) his wife will have to be sent to the insane asylum and his child to the poor house a charge to the State at present he supports them by his own exertions he therefore hopes Your excellency will remit hisfine & the undersigned concur in the object of this petition.
