I send to you the Petition of numerous citizens for the release of the fine of James McKinney of $75,00 rendered against him at the Februay term of the Bracken Circuit Court 1862.

He is a young man and did wrong, but he was led into it by others, who have left for parts unknown; and he remains to suffer for their wrongs. He is a young man of no means, his father is in very moderate circumstances, and has a large family mostly small, he has replevied the fine, but if he is compelled
to pay it for his son, it will nearly break him up — I think it would be an act of mercy to remit his fine, it will relieve his father, and the young man makes many promises for the furtuer — if you feel it consistent with your duty, I think it would be right to remit said fine, and if you do, please send to me.
