To His Excellency Beriah Magoffin, Governor of the State of Kentucky

The undersigned Louis Golling would represent To your Excellency; That he is the keper of a Restaurant in the City of Maysville, Where he furnishes eatables, Oysters & drinks To his customers, Having been charged this day with selling drinks on Sundy against the ordinances of the City, He went before the Mayor, Confessing the charge, Was fined fifteen dollars and costs, He represents that the offence charged against him was a common usage in all Such houses, In this City. For a long time past, And that until now he knows of no case, in which parties have been fined, Fo this alleged offence, He represents, further that he is a peaceable, orderly, quiet Citizen, And has always kept a house of good reputte, As his neighbors in the accompanying petetion all testify; He further represents, To your Excellency, That he is a man of limited means. And a dependent family, And in these hard times, The Collection of the fine; Would be a hardship and privation, To his family, Wherefore he verry respectfully requests Your Excellency to remit Said fine.

Wee the undersiged Citizens of Maysville hereby testify, That Louis Golling the petetioners above is an orderly Citizen, keeps a reputable house, And that it would be a hardship to exact a fine from him, When for So long a time, So many Similar houses have escaped without fine. Wherefore wee the undersigned pray, His Excellency the Governor, To remit Said fine.
