Dear Sir

We were the attornys of J. P. M. Bowling the brother of R. R. Bowling (who were sons of our old and tried ^friend^ Knight Bowling of Mercer County Ky) This man J P M Bowling was very dissipated and had drank so much that we are satisfied he did not feel or Know what he had done for after he was arrested he came to our office and his conduct & demeanor satisfied us that he thought he had done something but not criminal in its character as he talked of it in a facetious
manner, he acted man like a man who felt he was in the power of others tho not upon any charge or for any cause that could disgrace. — Altho we might not have satisfied a jury (if the case had come to trial) that he wanted the lucricausa Yet we were then & are still satisfied that he did not apprehend the magnitude of the crime he was charged if he Apprehended he had committed a crime atall — Neither he nor R R Bowling have friends that could give them any pecuniary aid and we hope you may find yourself justified to remit the judgement
for we do think it a case that merits Executive Clemency.
