Dear Sir

Pardon entir Strongers and those too who occupy on humble positions in that noble army who have so Successfuly driven the invades from your State for addressing at this time one who holds so Honerable a place as yourself We come Sir as petitioners in the behalf of a Dear Friend who is in the penatentiary of your State

We refer Sir to Mr Calvin Fairbanks who was incarcerated in the penatetiary of Kentucky for aiding in the Escape of a fugative Slave at Louisvill about ten years ago Perhaps Sir his false philanthrophy has led him to commit an act not justified by the laws of his cuntry yet Sir I know that he possesses many noble traits of character which constitute a good citizen. Suppose that he is guilty of the crime for which he was condemned is not the punishment that he has already Suffered Sufficiant to answer the Ends of justice. His sentence was fifteen years! O Sir must he remain the other five

In the behalf of his intersted ^wife^ who has all this time remained true to him and in behalf of ^his^ aged widowed Mother who was soly dependent on him for support and who now Suffers for the want of his aide, We would plead with you for his release

Sir we suppose that you like other men love to dwell upon the Sweet memorys of childhood, and undoubtly you are aware the friendships that are formed in childhood are those that go with us through life Suppose that one of your childhood friends had in the hour of Temptation had Committed an act for which he must suffer the penelty of the law. O! Sir would not your heart yearn over your
over your fallen friend, and Suppose Sir that the widowed mother ^of that friend^ had been for ten long years (for the want of his assistantce), dependanest on the cold charitys of the world for Support Would you ^not^ mak an Effort for his release

Sir it is for such a friend that we plead with you at this time O! Sir will you not release Calvin Fairbanks from the penatentiary of Kentucky an act of mercy for which many hearts will remember you with gratatude
