To His Excellency the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky

Your petitioner Basil Simpson respectully represents, that he is a free man of color 58 years of age, and that on the 26^th day of December 1860. he entered into a bail bond as surety for the appearance of his son William Simpson who was charged with an assault upon Joseph Harrod in the County of Franklin, said bond was for the sum of $800⁰⁰ That some short time after the execution of said Bail bond the said William Simpson, without the knowledge or consent and against the wishes of your petitioner, departed from the state of Kentucky, and has remained away ever since.

Your petitioner further represents that at the February term 1861 of the Franklin Circuit Court, said bail bond was forfeited and at the Febry term 1862 of said Court a Judgment was rendered against your petitioner for the sum of $800⁰⁰ and Costs and a Capias is now in the hands of the sheriff of Franklin County against your petitioner. He further states that he is unable to pay said sum of money. He is the owner of a small farm in Franklin County
worth about $800⁰⁰, and some stock which is all the property he owns.

He further states that he has a large family to support and by reason of his age, is hardly able to do so. and if he is compelled to pay said Judgment. it will leave him without a vistage of property, an old broken down man.

He therefore prays that said judgment be remitted, by your Excellency.
