your petitioner Martin Vanhook would respectfully state that he was find ^in March Cort^ before G. W. Abbot Esqr a justice of the Peace for Rockcastle County Ky the sum of $5,00 together with some $6 or 8 dollars cost for the offence of throwing a stone which was proven to have hit aman but not Injuring him the fact is this through sickness and misfortune's In my family had but ashort time lost a son ~~[...]that~~ but a youth who had ~~[...]~~ been over pursuaded In to the service contrary to my wish &C I was in publicc company and had unusually drank too much and have no Recollection of throwing a rock as charged and the man I should have hit was one of my best friends and when he understood I throwd It he was perfectly satisfied that I intended no harm to~~him~~ to him or any one else

It is very true the sum that I was find is small, but my mean's are also small I have ~~had~~ a large family to support have had Doctor bills to pay I shall even be pressd to pay the cost of this

I hope your Honer will Interpose in my behalf and Remit said fine
for which your petitioner will Ever feel grateful

the undersigned would Respectfully state we was present at the time the Rock was throwd by Mr Vanhook as stated and we are satisfied he was Insensible of what he was doing and the man he hit did not wish him to have been find he is quite apoor man has had misfortune & in his family for the last 12 months enough too almost derange aman and we have Insisted on him (knowing his condition as we do) to appeal to your Honer to Remit said fine and hope you will accordingly do so —
