To his excellency Beriah M^aGoffin Govenor of the Comonwealth of Kentucky.

Your petitioner James Griffith would Respectfully Represent that some year two since he became the surety of W^m Southworth as a witness to attend and testify in a penal action, in a penalty of one hundred dollars, said witness failing to attend at the term at which the attachment, and Bond [was] Returnable, the Bond was Forfeited, and although the witness attended and testified at the last November Term ^of^ the Court, at the May term 1862 your petitioner was Required to pay one hundred dollars, and the costs, of the proceeding, or Rather judgement is Rendered against him for said sum, Being a young man of limited means, it would be a great hardship, & he would be subjected to considerable loss if Required to pay said sum of Money, He therefore appeals to executive clemency for Relief
