Sir We the undersigned are engaged in the Drug buisness at this place, having commenced the same last January, and in laying in our Stock of Drugs medicins &c, we as it is the custom brought a small quanty, not in all as much as five Gallons, of pure Liquors and Wines exclusively for medical purposes, and alone as such, have we solde any, and in no case have we or will we sell any but for the Sick, Yet some secret foe has complained against us even for this, and we were on the 18^th inst,, by warrant arraigned and
fined ten Dollars and Cost, Believing the whole proceeding of said indictment ^&c^ to be wrong, we implore you to remit said fine.

We omitted in our petition to say that the inditement against us was tried before A Bagby Police Judge of the Town of Ashland, by the State Laws.

I take pleasure in saying Rev Mr Snead the senior partner of the firm is and has been an exemplary Citizen of this community and is as much opposed to the traffic in ardent spirits as any person perhaps in the State, ~~[...]~~ and therefore harmless in this alledged offence the motive being correct
