Dear Sir

I arrived here on yesterday and hoped to find you at home but was disappointed.

I leave a petition.

John Singer a fine man of colour his son wife & Daughter were presented by the Grand Jury of Kenton County for a violation of the law in relation to their going out of the state and returning. You will see W^m E Arthurs statement to you on his petition which I hope you will Examine carefully, with the names of the most prominent citizens of Covingtion indeed there is but one Expression and that is that he should be relievedbyyourhonour. Which I do hope you will do, he is one of the best citizens of his race that I have ever known and no doubt was innocent as you will see from facts stated in his petition and by the Comwths Atty, W E Arthur Our court commences on the 3^rd Monday in this month and if can possibly with your feelings, use your Power in releasing or pardoning him you will be justified by the whole community.

I do hope you will attend to this at the Earliest opportunity after your return home. At any rate will you please drop me a note on the subject I know it asking a good deal at your hand but I come here especially to see you and have failed
and that two at the Expense of Said John Singer and I shall be disappointed much if I dont hear from you during the course of next week in compliance you will indeed verry much Oblige your humble

N B I have known John Singer for fifteen years and I never knew him in any way or shape do a dishonorable act, and his family are all respectable he is the best Barber I ever knew
