My Dear Sir:

I have been requested to forward to you the enclosed petition, & letter, praying the pardon of W G Yancey, convicted on this day, under an indictment for Grand Larceny, to serve one year in the penitentiary —

As you will perceive, the jury unanimously unite in the request of your excellency — I think the case earnestly merits your clement consideration — & I cordially join my friend Col Jno T Bunch in urging you to pardon the unfortunate young man — If it were supposed that it would have any greater weight with you
the names of a hundred of our best citizens could be added to the petition, but as the jury heard all the evidence & ~~are~~ were fully familiar with all the Circumstances attending the case, it was believed then unanimous prayer would be sufficient — Hoping that you may feel it consistent with your feelings of duty to grant the request of your friends. I am, with assurances of high esteem —
