There will be presented to you by many of the citizens of this county for the pardon of A J Hathway convicted and sentenced by the court here on a charge of grand larseny — Now in the penitentiary

His wife and child are in destitution she appealed to me this morning to write to you in her be half for the pardon of her husband My sympathies were exerted in her favor I had a conversation with M^r Kenny. He thinks he ought to be pardoned upon the merits of the case he [being] that he bought the cow from a black man. If the ends of Justice are subserved by his confinement so far and you can consistently with duty. I should be glad you could restore him to his family
