Sir: We are counsel for C^ol Francis Searcy in the prosecution against him spoken of in his petition for a pardon We attended & heard all the evidence on the trial before the examining court & again when he was bailed under a writ of Habeas Corpus & we believe that we correctly understand the movements & intrigue which resulted in the indictment of Searcy & to the best of our Knowledge & belief the Matters Setforth in his petition for a pardon are true & we heartily concur in asking a pardon in the case We will merely add that there are no politics mixed up in the case. Searcy & the deceased Caperton were both ardent Bell & Everett men

We do not believe that public Sentiment would be against the pardon of Searcy
