To his Excellency, the Governor of the State of Kentucky.

It appears by the annexed papers, duly authenticated according to the Laws of our State, that one Mordecai P. Hunnicut, late of Morgan County. O. stands charged by Indictment with the crime of Forgery and it has been represented that said Hunnicut fled from the Justice of this State, and has taken refuge within the State of Kentucky

Now, Therefore, Pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution and Laws of the United States, in such case made and provided, I do hereby require that the said Mordecai P. Hunnicut be apprehended and delivered to J. S. Hawkins who is hereby duly authorized to receive him and convey him to the State of Ohio, there to be dealt with according to [...]

The undersigned prosecuting attorney of Morgan County Ohio represents that Mordecai P. Hunnicutt late a resident of Morgan County Ohio has been duly [indicted in said county for forgery as will fully ] appear from a certified copy of said indictment herewith enclosed

In the opinion of the undersigned if the matters and things set forth in said indictment are true the trial of said Mordecai P Hunnicut for said crime would result in his conviction

The undersigned further represents that said Mordecai P Hunnicut has fled from the state of Ohio to avoid ar^r^est and that he has been since arrested in the state of Kentucky and is now confined in jail at Louisville in said state of Kentucky to await the requisition of your Excellency upon the Governor of Kentucky for his delivery to a proper person to be brought to this county for trial

You are therefore desired to cause proper requisition to made on the Gov of Kentucky for the person of said Mordecai P Hunnicutt

J S Hawkins of Mound City Illinois is named as a proper person to receive said Mordecai P Hunnicut ~~and~~ from the authorities of Kentucky and to bring him to this county for trial

Be it remembered that heretofore to wit: on the 19th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight and Sixty one, the Grand Jurors of the state of Ohio, at a Court of Common Pleas, held at the Court House, in the Town of McConnelsville, in the County of Morgan, in said State, being in the Eighth Judicial District of said Court, and at the March Term thereof before the Honorable Lucius P. Marsh Judge, the Grand Jurors of the state of Ohio, to wit: Jacob M. Smith, Jacob Bingman, Joseph Kelly, Jacob Adams, James W. Turner, George Steffy, Hiram Shepard, Smith Townsend, William Sterret, Joseph Noyes, Ezekiel Devol, Phillip Brooks, John Henderson, Sebastian E. Fouts, and Jordan Betts, of whom the said Joseph Kelly, was by the Court appointed Foreman and the Grand Jurors aforesaid being duly empanneled and sworn and affirmed, and by the Court duly charged according to law on the 21st day of March in the year aforesaid, appeared in open Court and Presented a true Bill of Indictment against the said Mordecai P. Hunnicut, of which the following is a true copy to wit:

The State of Ohio,
Morgan County SS } Court of Common Pleas of the Term of March in the year of Our Lord, One thousand Eight hundred and Sixty one,

The Grand Jurors of the State of Ohio, empannelled, and sworn and affirmed to inquire of crimes and offences
committed within and for the body of the County of Morgan aforesaid, on the oath and affirmation, present and find, that Mordecai P. Hunnicut, on the second day of January, in the year of our Lord, One thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty one, at the County of Morgan, aforesaid; did feloniously, unlawfully and falsely utter publish, and put off to Robert A. Pinkerton, and Henry Linkin ^with intent then and ^there^ to defraud the said Robert A. Pinkerton and Henry Linkin^ a certain false forged and counterfeited promissory note as a true and genuine promissory Note of Ira Patterson given for the payment of forty two dollars which said promissory note then and there was of the tenor and effect following to wit:

Twelve Months after date I promise to pay to W^m P. Hunnicut or order forty two dollars for value rec^d.

Which said note was indorsed W^m P. Hunnicut

I assign this note to R. A. Pinkerton & Henry Linkin as collateral security Jan 2d 1851.

The said Mordecai P. Hunnicut then and there well knowing the aforesaid forged promissory note to be false forged and counterfeited contrary to the form of the statute in such case made and provided and against the peace and dignity of the state of Ohio.

And the Grand Jurors of the State of Ohio, aforesaid empanneled sworn and affirmed as aforesaid on their said oath and affirmation aforesaid do further present and find that Mordecai P. Hunnicut on the second day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
Fifty one at the County of Morgan aforesaid did feloniously unlawfully and falsely make forge and counterfeit a certain promissory note and the endorsements thereon with the intent to prejudice damage and defraud Robert A. Pinkerton and Henry Linkin which said promissory note is in the words and figures following to wit:

Chesterfield June 6th 1850
