PROCLAMATION BY THE GOVERNOR:
APPOINTING A DAY OF
THANKSGIVING AND PRAYER.

State of Ohio, Executive Department,
COLUMBUS, Nov. 1st, 1861.

Pursuant to the request of the General Assembly of this State, and in accordance with my own sense of gratitude to Almighty God, for the bountiful mercies which He has bestowed upon the people of Ohio, I do hereby designate and set apart
THURSDAY, THE TWENTY-EIGHTH DAY OF NOVEMBER, INSTANT,
As a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to Him for the inestimable privileges of our Civil and Religious Institutions; for protecting our Homes from the ravages of War, and for the manifold Blessings, individual and social, which surround and support us: and I respectfully urge upon all the people, that they refrain from their usual employments on that day, and, in their places of public worship, and at their homes, with grateful acknowledgments, offer fervent prayers to our Heavenly Father, that He may continue to remember us in His mercy; remove the calamities of civil strife which afflict the nation; restore concord between the States, confirming and perpetrating our political Union, and securing to us and to our posterity the privileges and advantages which distinguish a Christian People.

In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Ohio to be affixed, this the first day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-one, of the Independence of the United States the 86th, and of the organization of Ohio th 59th.
